The Secretary of Public Education (SEP) has reported at the last moment that the classes face-to-face indefinitely in a couple of states due to situations beyond the control of the organization itself.

It is worth mentioning that the determination that face-to-face classes are suspended indefinitely for preschool, primary and secondary levels, which affects two states of the Mexican Republic, is due to events directly related to teachers and other teaching staff of some basic education schools and that with the endorsement of the SEP, have chosen to interrupt their work.

According to the SEP Bulletin, on April 17, more than twenty million students have returned to classes with various changes in the 2023 school calendar. However, in some entities they still cannot open the doors of the schools for the suspension of activities; that are added to Acapulco, Guerrero; where high school students from zone 11 could not return due to a work stoppage; as explained by spokesman Marco Jaimes Ramos.

In these states, face-to-face SEP classes are suspended indefinitely for primary and secondary

In one of the two states where the situation is delicate is in Oaxaca, since the SEP has chosen to suspend face-to-face classes indefinitely for preschool, primary and secondary schools in the town of Amoltepec. This is because lately there have been high homicide rates against teachers, since the most recent crime occurred on March 22, when a teacher was ambushed while driving his vehicle.

Given this situation and that the crimes have not been clarified nor has progress been shown in the investigations, Section 22 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) together with the SEP determined that face-to-face classes are suspended indefinitely for education basic, because with this measure they seek to demand security and they blamed the state government for the wave of violence and insecurity that exists in the state; affecting around 4,500 students.

With this movement, teaching staff demands that the SEP authorities of said entity cover the payment of 152 hours owed to more than 20 teachers since 2017.

Thus, parents of students who attend preschool, primary, and secondary school in the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero should keep an eye out for upcoming announcements in their localities, because at the moment it is not seen that they will change the decision to cancel face-to-face classes in any way. indefinitely in various elementary schools.
