He caused scandals, soon he will retire: the comedian Serdar Somuncu (54) After a last tour in autumn there will be no more stage appearances.

The line has been announced for a long time, now the cabaret artist spoke in an interview with the WELT (like BILD belongs to Axel Springer) about the reasons. “To put it simply, I don’t feel like it anymore. I’ve earned enough money and seen everything,” he explains.

And Somuncu complains: “I no longer feel like going on stage while there are people in the audience who are writing everything down and immediately posting it on a shitty social platform if they see potential for excitement.”

After that he had trouble for five weeks – “just because I did exactly the job that I’ve been doing for decades,” says the comedian.

“It’s no longer possible for me to stand on a stage and say something without people assuming he’s serious. As an artist, I can no longer work with illusions,” Somuncu continues.

The podcast scandal

Two and a half years ago, the comedian drew a storm of anger because he had railed against certain public statements in a podcast on the rbb station Radio Eins. It was a bet, he later explained the reason for his hearty choice of words.

In the podcast, Somuncu said: “The people who celebrate it like this and who are now living out their culture on the Internet and on Twitter with their fucking social networks, they are all pissers. I don’t want to name them. Mostly women. Badly banged, lousy, ugly saddle pads.”

He went further, insulting women with even more vulgar terms. “The only thing they have left is that they can’t suck cock, they think they can write columns. And everyone knows: You wouldn’t even touch the old woman who writes the column with tweezers. And she writes about sexism.”

He and his podcast partner Florian Schröder (43) then apologized. When asked about the case, Somuncu now says in the WELT interview: “During the first episode of my podcast with Florian Schroeder, after two and a half hours of conversation, I said: I’ll show you how cancel culture works. I’ll just talk really crass stuff for two minutes. After that we end the passage and continue talking normally.”

It was a bet that the passage would be posted on Twitter by someone without context, Somuncu says. “And that’s exactly what happened. Someone cut out the two-and-a-half minutes and everyone got angry.”

In the interview, Somuncu said nothing about whether he wanted to continue with his podcast after he left the stage.
