On Wednesday’s The Bump, the “Visionary” spoke about this achievement and how much it means to him to be World Heavyweight Champion.
It’s been a long road, really. It’s been almost four years since he’s been world heavyweight champion, and he said it on Raw, lots of ups and lots of downs.
The public loves me, hates me, likes me, dislikes me. I loved every second. It was four transformative years. I’m a completely different person than I was the last time I was world champion.
So this time, it seems right to me.
I am excited to bring a world title back to Raw, a program that has been sorely lacking a world champion for some time now, and I intend to defend that title, be there, headline Monday nights as I have been, but this time with a title on the shoulder.
Its special. Whenever you manage to do something for the first time, it’s special. It was the culmination of everything. This title wouldn’t exist if our industry and our company weren’t so healthy, with amazing fighters in every sector.
There was a need for a title on Monday nights. There was a need for a new title because everyone is great. If you look at everybody, me, AJ Styles, all the guys on SmackDown, really. Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Gunther. If we look at Raw, we have Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn.
There is a lot of competition at the top and we needed a prize to fight for as our Universal Champion wants to stay part-time.
So we have to have a title. I was beyond excited to have it. I’m beyond excited to be the man to usher in this new era, an era of change.
I said it at the beginning. I want to face anyone from any brand. I don’t care if it’s SmackDown, Raw, NXT, I don’t care if it’s from anywhere in the world.
I want people to challenge me, whether it’s a title shot, whether it’s a tag team match, six-man, cage match, I don’t care. I want to fight. I want the thrill. I want to rise and lift this title with me.
