According to Dominion, the parties have settled that Fox will pay around SEK 8 billion to Dominon instead of settling the matter in court. Domino’s CEO says that Fox will also have admitted that they lied.

– This means that Fox avoids what would have been one of the largest defamation lawsuits against a media company ever in the United States. The judge did not say exactly what the agreement contains, but it could be hundreds of millions of kroner, given that the damages that Dominion demanded was 16 billion kroner, says SVT’s correspondent Fouad Youcefi on the spot at the courtroom shortly after the announcement.

Claimed Fox was spreading conspiracy theories

The company Dominion, which is the manufacturer of the vote counting system used in the 2020 presidential election, sued Fox News, claiming that the channel deliberately spread conspiracy theories that the vote count should not have been correct.

Dominion believes that Fox News knew that the rumors were false, but nevertheless broadcast several features claiming that the election was rigged in President Joe Biden’s favor.

Tuesday was thus the first and last day of the trial.

– After lunch, the court was supposed to reconvene, but no judge appeared. We all wondered why it took so long, and now we found out why, says SVT correspondent Fouad Youcefi on the spot at the courtroom.
