MEXICO CITY (apro).- Claudia Sheinbaum has already sent to the Congress of Mexico City the request for definitive separation from the “honorable position” of Head of Government “as of June 16 and asked it to convene an extraordinary session to submit it for the consideration of local deputies.
With a broadcast date of June 12 and reception at 6:23 p.m. yesterday, the presidential candidate legalized the announcement she made hours before in the Old City Hall, embraced by her entire central and expanded cabinet that, despite the prohibition of the National Council of Morena, yelled in unison: “Pre-si-den-ta, pre-si-den-ta!”
The document, which is circulating on social networks, is addressed to Federico Döring, president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the capital’s Congress, to whom he communicates his decision:
“I have decided to definitively separate myself from the honorable position of Head of Government of Mexico City, as of June 16 of the current year, because I will participate in the process to elect the person who will coordinate the defense of the transformation of our country.
For this reason, the morenista requested that the Jucopo convene an extraordinary session of the capital’s Congress “so that it kindly submits it to the consideration of said Sovereignty.”
In a second paragraph, Sheinbaum Pardo dedicated some heartfelt words to the deputies and the people of the capital:
“In this period of almost 5 years it has been a privilege to serve the people of Mexico City, a supportive, creative, hard-working, happy people who always get ahead in the face of any adversity. I guarantee the deputies of the Congress of Mexico City and the inhabitants of this great city that a first class government team will remain, which will finalize the pending projects”.
The first woman elected as head of government closed the document: “Thank you to the people of Mexico City for allowing me to serve you.”
Sheinbaum Pardo’s request reached the deputies just a week after – on June 5 – she said: “I do not intend to resign from the position of Head of Government of Mexico City. I was elected, until, in her case, I win the poll and in any case it will be a different situation”.
This afternoon, Sheinbaum Pardo announced that this Wednesday the 14th he will explain who will be in charge of the office of the Headquarters of Government and will give the name of the person to whom he is going to suggest so that, if the deputies approve it, he will remain as head interim government until December 2024.
