One of the largest investments made by the Government of Mexico City is to improve public transport and guarantee the safety of its passengers, said the head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum.
He pointed out that in 2022 there was an expense of 18.8 billion pesos in the capital Metro and that this year it increased to 19.7 billion pesos. Additionally, 37 billion pesos are invested in the recovery of Line 1.

Now everything is being put back together, but also with a modern train operation system and 29 trains that come from China are also being acquired, but 30 percent are manufactured in Mexico, in a plant that was set up in Querétaro.” said in an interview with excelsior.

In addition to the renewal of Line 1, 4,500 million pesos are invested in the construction of the plant that will feed that line; and 320 million pesos in the new control center that was installed in the CDMX Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center (C5) and which is in the testing phase.
Investments are also made to modernize the public transport vehicle fleet.
There are 500 new trolleybuses, the blue ones. We are going to reach a total fleet of 800 buses in the modern passenger transport network. It was changed to all buses on Line 1 of the Metrobús. Line 3 will have only electric buses; It already has ten and is going to have 60 electric buses. Line 5 of the Metrobús that goes along Eje 3 Oriente was finished and it was extended to Xochimilco.
The Light Train was completely renovated. The entire track was changed and new trains are being acquired for the Light Rail. In addition, the elevated Trolleybus was built, on Axis 8, in Ermita, in Iztapalapa, and the two cable cars, and we are going for the third cable car,” Sheinbaum explained.
Added to this is the reconstruction of the elevated section of Line 12 of the Metro and the reopening of the underground section last weekend.
A review was carried out with specialized companies and the companies themselves said that it was already in a condition to be used and that is why it was opened. There were 15 days of testing and that’s why it opens yesterday,” explained Sheinbaum.
Regarding the current situation in the Metro, he acknowledged that the decision to monitor Metro stations and other priority facilities with the National Guard was difficult, but the constant failures demanded it.
He insisted that the surveys carried out among Metro users indicate that around 70% agree with the surveillance of the National Guard.
Yes, there is information that atypical situations are occurring in the Metro that can put people at risk, in that case, do not hesitate, seek support, in this case from the National Guard. In addition, it must be clarified that the National Guard is not armed, which is important.
People have to be safe and that they know that the head of government is taking measures for cases that we are finding that are atypical, abnormal and that can put citizens at risk (…).
It is thought to solve problems at the moment and not in a political calculation of what can happen. It is an issue in which a decision must be made and what is happening in the city will always be explained,” Sheinbaum reiterated.
He insisted that the relationship with the workers and the union leadership is institutional and that it will be the Prosecutor’s Office that determines who is responsible for the failures registered in the Metro.
He dismissed the criticism from opposition parties because, he said, “they have not raised anything constructive.”
