The Lola 23 went to productions from the ZDF family a total of six times at the German Film Awards on Friday, May 12, 2023. “The cinema film is able to show us what concerns and must concern us as a society in these times. This art form succeeds in promoting the necessary discourse between people and thus bringing them closer together again. That is why ZDF continues to be a reliable partner on his commitment in the field of cinema co-productions. We are extremely pleased about the awards of the German Film Prize and congratulate all those involved, “says ZDF program director Dr. Nadine Bilke.
The Lola in Gold in the category “Best Feature Film” went to “The Teacher’s Room”. In it, the young teacher Carla (Leonie Benesch) takes on her first job full of idealism. But a series of thefts affects the mood of the college. When a Turkish student is suspected and subpoenaed in an unworthy manner, Carla begins to investigate. The editors are Alexandra Staib (ZDF), Olaf Grunert (ZDF/ARTE) and Barbara Häbe (ARTE). The film was also successful in four other categories: Leonie Benesch was honored for “Best Female Lead”. Ilker Çatak received the award for “Best Director”. A Lola in the category “Best Screenplay” went to Johannes Duncker and Ilker Çatak. Gesa Jäger was honored for the “Best Cut”.
“Holy Spider” also received a bronze Lola in the “Best Feature Film” category. In it, a series of unsolved murders of prostitutes keeps a city in Iran in suspense: He believes he is doing God’s work by clearing the dirt of the streets. The journalist Rahimi (Zar Amir Ebrahimi) is supposed to investigate the case. The ZDF/ARTE editors have Holger Stern.
In the ZDFkultur interview series “Masterclass”, Karim Sebastian Elias speaks with the creators of the successful production “Nothing new in the West”, which won nine film prizes. Nine interviews will be published in the ZDFmediathek from Friday, June 23, 2023, the first with Volker Bertelmann is already online. The talks are offered barrier-free and can be accessed with optional subtitles.
