Humans’ ability to play games has come a long way in recent times, but it was supposed to be lacking. We have been playing games since the dawn of time – everything from both large and intricate team games, to small finger toys such as rock-paper-scissors.

Some of the best games on Geforce Now

  • Midnight Suns
  • Dying Light 2
  • Warhammer 40,000: Dark Tide
  • Plague Tale Requiem
  • Battlefield 2042
  • The Entry Center
  • Evil West
  • The Mass Effect trilogy
  • Cyberpunk
  • God of War
  • The Witcher 3

GeForce Now lets you play over 1,500 games on all your devices, and with the coolest graphics.

Many believe that we have ended up with a reasonably standard experience where most people play on expensive machines, with their hands wrapped around the mouse and keyboard. And many probably have, but there are always some creative souls who stand out.

Now we will honor some of the strangest examples.

Water bucket dancing

There are loads of classic rhythm games where it’s all about pressing the right button at the right time. But for some, that’s not enough. Youtuber Jay Silver also played with buckets of water instead of buttons and of course he used his legs to “press”.

The result is a hysterical dance and an incredibly soft high score.

Who really needs 4K?

Not everyone wants to have to change pants between each board to avoid pneumonia, but prefer to sit in front of a normal keyboard.

And sometimes that’s all you need. Reddit user Mr_Murdoc plays Skyrim on a keyboard, and that’s it!

So, there is a normal computer involved, but there is no other screen than the small display above the number keys. It’s not overwhelming resolution, and neither are the colors, but if you can, you must.

The Doom Camera

Doom has been played on many strange devices, and will probably also be played in the future on gadgets we couldn’t imagine. Everything from calculators and pregnancy tests have had to suffer through the world’s most famous first-person shooter.

The game is so simply built that it can be played on anything that has a computer chip and a screen of some kind.

A great example is this port of Doom on a Kodak DC260 camera. Not only is it in color, but it has sound too!!

Mariocraft

Doom can be played on almost anything with a screen, but did you know it can be played inside quite a bit too? Youtuber Carson S. has actually programmed Doom inside Minecraft. And this is a completely normal version of Minecraft, without additions or modifications to the game.

But since Doom is everywhere he needed a new challenge, and therefore just as well programmed Super Mario Bros. also!

It is admittedly up to 500 times slower than on the NES, but for those of us who don’t have a vintage 80s console with an old-fashioned TV lying around, Minecraft is the solution.

Own hardware

For some, it’s simply not enough to play games where games were never meant to be played. And then you find electronic components and make your own circuits.

Like so many others who have electronics as a hobby, the hacker Dimitar started by hooking up the circuit temporarily on a prototype board. But he quickly found that he liked having the opportunity to change the circuit along the way, while at the same time he wanted a good gaming experience.

Therefore, the building might as well have its own control board to mount directly on the prototype. It is uncertain whether this will be a newsstand smash, but some will surely think this is the best invention since the wheel.

Mind reading is no longer just imagination

The streamer Perrikaryal obviously got tired of remembering button combinations and keybinds and shortcuts, and therefore connected an EEG to the gaming machine.

An EEG is a machine that reads brain waves, and knows how to analyze what happens in the brain when the player thinks about different game commands, she could eventually play Elden Ring by thinking!

Yep, apparently only a very advanced headband can be all you need to beat the legendarily difficult game.

But for everyone else…

These are just a few examples of people who genuinely enjoy making things a little more difficult for themselves. And games have always been about overcoming challenges, but for most of us this is a bit more than we can handle.

We want to be able to relax after a long day’s work. After all, there are few better ways to relax after a hectic everyday life than to round a few boards.
