Pure goosebumps.

The band Linkin Park has dug deep into the song box. A very special song that was actually considered lost will be released on Friday. The song, aptly titled Lost, is sung by late frontman Chester Bennington († 41)!

► Bennington committed suicide in 2017. He was married, left six children by two women. His band colleague Mike Shinoda (45) at the time: “It’s shocking and heartbreaking.”

The terrible loss seems to have been largely overcome – the good times are remembered.

This also speaks for the timing of the release: the new song with the unreleased Chester material will be released shortly before the 20th anniversary of their mega-album success “Meteora” (March 25, 2003).

Apparently the song was part of the album, but was discarded – and just now rediscovered! Linkin Park previously shared a snippet on Twitter, writing: “‘Lost’, a new, unheard song from the Meteora archives. Out on Friday February 10th.”

Meteora is the band’s second studio album, featuring hits like Numb and Somewhere I Belong. Fans are already speculating whether Linkin Park will release an expanded version of “Meteora” in honor of the album’s anniversary.

What speaks for it? Already in 2020 the band re-released their debut album “Hybrid Theory” in different formats. This anniversary edition also contained unreleased tracks.

money making? Possible. But probably more the obligation to the fans. The band have been on hiatus since Chester’s death in 2017. However, the fan love never broke off.

“The only Linkin Park news I have for you guys is that…yeah, we talk every few weeks — I talk to the guys, or some of the guys,” co-frontman Shinoda said on a Twitch stream on last spring.

And: “There are no tours, there is no music, there are no albums in the pipeline. Okay, let me just tell you this. So just keep in mind that’s not going to happen.”

The band released a new deluxe edition of their 2007 album Minutes To Midnight last May.

But the fans are dying for new material or live performances!

Shinoda tries to cool down the fan heat: “I’ll just say this much for now: I’m saying this because every time the band says or does something, everyone is trying to catch the hype train -train) to start, and we say, ‘No, no, no, no. Don’t start the hype train.’ You will disappoint yourself. Don’t do that.”

Releasing lost songs seems like the least the band can do to wow fans…
