In the coming weeks, Sky will shut down four channels. The children’s channel Junior and the NBC universal channel E! Entertainment, both of which will be removed from the Sky channel list on December 31st. Two more will follow at the end of January.

That reports that Online magazine digital television. In an interview, Sky Entertainment boss Christian Asanger confirmed the transmitter shutdowns.

Sky customers have to be prepared for a total of four channel shutdowns – cable customers will get a new channel. The shutdowns of children’s channel Junior and NBC Universal’s E! Entertainment have been fixed for a long time. At the turn of the year, these two entertainment programs will be completely discontinued in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

NatGeoWild and NatGeo will be retired at the end of January

The other two transmitter shutdowns relate to Disney programs. These are the channels NatGeoWild and NatGeo. According to Sky program manager Asanger, these offers no longer fit the pay-TV provider’s content strategy. So they only fly out of the Sky offer and, unlike the first two channels, are not completely discontinued.

Statement from Sky

“The switch-off is exclusively related to Sky’s strategy of increasingly focusing on its own exclusive content. It was a conscious decision by Sky Deutschland to part with these channels. We would like to thank our partners for the many years of good cooperation. We want to put more focus on our broadcaster brands Sky Documentaries, Sky Nature and Sky Crime and invest in our own content, which can then only be seen exclusively on Sky.”

Cable customers will then receive a new station in their feed list at the end of March. As of March 8, 2023, Sky plans to add the History Channel for all users. The channel was already part of the Sky offer, but so far only for customers who receive pay-TV packages via satellite or IPTV.
