At the end of October 2022, Positivo Casa Inteligente launched Smart Button Wi-Fi, a kit that allows you to control several connected devices from your home with the ease of having the controls in the palm of your hand.

Does the product deliver a good user experience? TudoCelular tested a unit in the last few weeks and reports the details to you in this full review.

design and build

The Smart Button Wi-Fi kit is made up of three devices: two Smart Button modules and a Smart Hub, which is responsible for integrating the duo and the application to manage actions.

All are constructed of white colored plastic which gives off a decent feel of quality. The hub is small and has a power supply to be plugged into an outlet. The modules have three large vertical keys and are powered by two batteries each, accessible by removing the two end keys.

The three pieces have magnetic parts on the back. They are for you to position fixedly on some wall magnet, if you prefer. But you can also leave it positioned on a nightstand or any other surface.

Despite being larger than the Smart Hub, both Wi-Fi Smart Button units are easily held in the hand. To be more exact, each module has dimensions of 8.5 x 8.5 x 1 cm. That is, a square format and relatively thin.

app and connectivity

All configuration is done through the Positivo Casa Inteligente app. The Smart Hub must be the first to perform the pairing, followed by the two buttons – which will be added in the management part of the hub. Each Smart Button requires removing a seal from the batteries before being used.

It is through the application that you can configure the actions of each key. In all, each module supports up to three commands. Each button has three types of activation: single tap, double tap and long tap – the latter takes three seconds to generate the command.

During management, you can still put a name for each command, as well as define the device and the action that each tap performs. It is worth mentioning that the Smart Hub always needs to be plugged in for the Smart Button to work.

practical experience

After all, does Smart Button Wi-Fi work well? From our practical experience, the overall result was satisfactory. We tested it together with a 12W RGB Plus Wi-Fi Smart Lamp and a Smart Plug.

Single and double tap commands take about a second to respond correctly. There was no error or exchange of functions between what had been previously configured by the application.

The only problem we saw was the lack of execution of the action in some times that we pressed the button. Despite playing without any error, the command is not done. Just repeat one or two more times to get it right. However, this is not a frequent failure.

According to the manufacturer, the maximum range for control is up to eight meters away, between the Smart Button and the Smart Hub. We did the test about six meters from the and we didn’t see any difference between using it like that and using it on the side of the base, even with a wall in the way.

When experimenting at a distance of approximately eight meters from the hub, with more walls in the way, failures start to happen. Attempts go wrong more than right. But still, it is possible that you will be able to turn on some electronics or turn off the light after the radius supported by the manufacturer.

Regarding where to leave it, we noticed that it is easier to leave it on a small table or on a support, to be inclined, than on the wall itself. It’s hard to find a place to magnetically attach it – and you certainly don’t want the Smart Button attached to your fridge unless it controls smart kitchen items.

Even after about four weeks of use, the battery is still 100% in the Positivo Casa Inteligente app. That is, the tendency is for the piece to last more than a year without needing any replacement.

Final considerations

The Smart Wi-Fi Button kit brings greater versatility to what could be just a smart switch. It is not tied to a specific location and even allows you to manage up to 18 commands with just one module.

But we understand that it is an accessory for those who choose to have their home connected, mostly made up of Positivo’s own smart devices, to be able to take full advantage of and manage routines with as many commands as possible.

On the other hand, we still have some problems that can be overcome, if it is not an emergency for you. This is the case of the failure a few times you press the button, which demands patience to try again for the action to be carried out.

The difficulty of positioning it on the wall may also require having a surface to support it when you need it, but if its use is fixed in a room, finding a place to make it easily accessible tends to be a simpler task.

It is worth it?

Positivo launched Smart Button Wi-Fi in Brazil for a suggested price of R$249. However, you can already find the kit to buy for something around R$219 in the current market.

We understand that this is an item with an interesting added value, since there is no competition for it, but it only pays off for those who have the brand’s ecosystem at home. Or at least two or more of the company’s smart appliances. Thus, the modules can be explored in a more complex and profitable way.
