The Federal Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. BVMW and the Republic of Uzbekistan intensify their cooperation. During his visit to Germany, BVMW Chairman Markus Jerger met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and other high-ranking representatives of the Uzbek government, including Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev and Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov. During the meeting, a protocol on cooperation between the BVMW and the Uzbek government was signed. “The cooperation between the BVMW and the Republic of Uzbekistan is an important step towards strengthening economic relations and opening up new opportunities for medium-sized companies in both countries,” says Markus Jerger.

Since 2016, Uzbekistan has launched a remarkable reform and opening-up policy, which is also praised and recognized by German business. The country, together with Kazakhstan, is seen as an alternative to the Russian economy and holds a key position in the middle corridor of the transport route between China and the European Union. The potential for trade and investment is great, but there is currently a lack of appropriate structures and local companies. BVMW Chairman Jerger: “As a mediator, supporter and enabler, BVMW will help small and large suppliers from Uzbekistan to exploit their potential for trade and investment and to facilitate access to the international market.”

Economic relations between Uzbekistan and Germany have expanded significantly in recent years. Bilateral trade turnover has doubled since 2017, and exports have grown 1.5 times. By 2026, export figures are expected to increase to 30 billion US dollars. Germany is Uzbekistan’s most important trade and economic partner within the EU.

The signing of the cooperation protocol is a further step in expanding bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Germany. Joint initiatives with the BVMW open up new opportunities for Uzbekistan in the areas of trade, investment and know-how transfer. In the coming years, joint projects are to be implemented in key areas such as energy, transport, environment and climate change, digital economy, agriculture and rural development, as well as social issues and scientific research. The BVMW will coordinate closely with the Uzbek partners in order to further exploit the promising opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries and to strengthen medium-sized companies in Germany and Uzbekistan.
