The hottest year ever recorded in the world

MIAMI.– The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. EDT for Friday, August 2, for counties in southeastern, southern, and southwestern Florida, including Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe.

The high temperature and high humidity warning is expected to bring a heat index between 105°F and 110°F during the day, with a potential rise to 111°F in certain areas of southwest and west central Florida, from noon to 6 p.m. EDT.

These conditions can increase the risk of heat-related illness for people who spend a lot of time outdoors.

The NWS recommends taking the following precautions:

  • Drink a lot of liquids.
  • Stay in air-conditioned places.
  • Avoid the direct exposure to the sun.
  • Check the health status of family members and neighbors, especially children and the elderly.

It is crucial not to leave children, pets or elderly people inside vehicles under any circumstances.

For those who work or spend time outdoors, it is advised to:

  • Schedule the most strenuous activities for early morning or evening.
  • Wear light, loose clothing.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments, as recommended by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Heat stroke is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention. If someone shows symptoms of heat illness, they should be moved to a cool, shaded area and 911 should be called immediately.

Stay informed about weather conditions and follow safety recommendations to avoid health complications due to extreme heat.
