The beginning of the year has meant money in the wallet for most people – but black numbers for large companies and a substantial rise in the stock market.

– Overall, it is very, very good and no signs of a recession so far, says Maria Landerborn, savings economist at the large bank Danske Bank.

The major banks are making record profits, industrial giants have fully subscribed order books and the Stockholm Stock Exchange has risen 10 percent since the turn of the year. Despite inflation and the rising interest costs, which meant shrinking margins for the Swedes, things seem to be going well for the big companies.
