Behind the theater of 14, rue of Treviso (Paris, 9th), hides the oldest basketball hall in the world. This place was designed as a gymnasium in 1893. We are then at the beginning of this sport. 130 years ago, basketball was played here for the first time in France and in Europe. Since then, nothing has changed, not even the floor. So, inevitably, the ground is now warped, and work is needed to give it a boost.

Between eight and ten million euros needed

Between eight and ten millioneuros are needed for the renovation of the 3,600 m2 of parquet. Everyone can put their hand in their pocket from 100 euros, through a sponsorship operation called “Adopt a blade”. “We are working with historical monuments, which are following this project closely”noted Danuta Pieter, responsible for the philanthropy of this theater. It’s a floor full of emotions for this old gymnasium. If he no longer has all his blades, he nevertheless keeps his soul.
