The transfer of Memphis Depay to Atlético Madrid is apparently as good as sealed. As reported by the Catalan ‘Sport’, the Dutch forward will join the Rojiblancos in the coming hours. The 28-year-old was no longer present at FC Barcelona’s team training session today.
This means that Depay will have his change request fulfilled half a year before the end of the contract. The striker has been out of demand for the Catalans since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer. Depay only played two games in La Liga this season, in the Champions League a meager 15 minutes were lost. The transfer fee for the 86-time national player is therefore manageable six months before his contract in Barcelona ends.
According to the report, the Colchoneros transfer between three and five million euros to Catalonia. A settlement or an exchange with winger Yannick Carrasco (29) seems to be off the table. According to ‘Sport’, Atleti were unwilling to include the Belgian in the deal. Like Depay’s, Carrasco’s contract expires at the end of the season.
