The U2 group took advantage of the Super Bowl to announce its return to Las Vegas at the MSG Sphere. The advertising spot strangely echoes the news.

It’s U2’s big comeback on stage. The group took advantage of the Super Bowl this Sunday to announce a residency in Las Vegas. In a commercial broadcast at halftime of the match between the Kansas City Chiefs in Glendale, Arizona, and the Philadelphia Eagles, the Irish teased their show entitled Achtung Baby.

The promotional clip features a mysterious “unidentified flying object” round in the sky – a reference to the Las Vegas venue where the band will perform, The Sphere – which has evoked for many fans, the Chinese balloon and the downed “objects” in recent days by the military in American skies.

“The American government has taken down ads for U2 concerts,” quipped American columnist Dave Schilling.

“Best marketing operation I’ve ever seen, it even fooled the military,” jokes another.

This is the title of their seventh album, released in 1991 and peppered with hits like One, Mysterious way Or Even better than the real things. It is also on the guitar riffs of this piece that the commercial ends.

This series of concerts is scheduled for the fall of 2023. It has been 4 years since the group took the stage, since the stadium tour entitled eXpERIENCE + iNNOCENCE.

“U2 haven’t played on stage since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage to see the faces of our fans again, they said in a statement (…) We are the right band, ‘ACHTUNG BABY’ the right album, and the Sphere the right place to take the live music experience to the next level

Drummer Larry Mullen Jr, one of the band’s founding members along with Bono and The Edge, will not be performing at upcoming shows.
