On January 11, 2022, an Arabic language teacher was attacked with a knife by one of her students at the CEM Amari Said in the commune of Taxlent, in the wilaya of Batna. This case shook all of Algeria, because of the violence of the act but also because of the age of the aggressor. As a reminder, while the teacher was standing in front of her desk, a student stabbed her in the back, before fleeing.
This Friday, January 13, the woman spoke, through a video posted on the internet. We can find this one, on the Facebook page of the Ennahar media, which relayed it. The woman wanted to reassure the Algerians, but above all to thank them for all the support given to her.
Rayhana Benchia speaks to all these people from her hospital bed to reassure them and says: “I’m fine, my condition is improving, pray for me”. Finally she ends up going back on the said aggression by adding that she has in no way harmed this high, and that her comrades can testify to it. A brief video, given the state of health of the woman, which will surely reassure all those worried about her.

After the assault, the teacher was rushed to Batna hospital. She benefited from the necessary rescue gestures, and the medical personnel were able to extract the knife. According to the video watched, and her words, she is recovering, slowly but remains weakened.
As a reminder, the Minister of National Education and the Minister of National Solidarity went to the hospital the day after the incident to hear from the woman and her state of health from the professor. He had also affirmed that this affair would give rise to a reflection “on the changes to be made to the internal regulations of educational establishments”.
The attacker arrested, he is remanded in custody
Initially, according to a press release from the public prosecutor at the court of N’gaous, attached to the court of justice of Batna, a minor presumed guilty of the attack with a knife was arrested and was the subject of investigation.
A copy of this press release was sent to the APS which relayed some elements. This document mentions that “the attacker on the run has been arrested and is the subject of an investigation”. Since then, things have progressed, and according to the Arabic-language media Ennahar, the examining magistrate, at the Judicial Council of Batna, ordered the placement of the accused in pre-trial detention in the minors’ quarter.
