For more than three years, employees in the hospitals had to wear masks. The FFP2 mask requirement ended on May 1st. The joy is also great in the LKH Feldkirch.

It is finally possible to work in hospitals and nursing homes again without a mask. Even visitors can do without them. The signs have already been taken down. VOL.AT spoke to three employees of the LKH Feldkirch about the mask off.

dr Emanuel Zitt is the primary of the Department of Internal Medicine III, Markus Breuss is the senior physiotherapist and Isolde Kordesch is a nurse on the interdisciplinary. For all three, anticipation prevailed on Tuesday.

“You almost feel a bit naked without a mask”

“Yes, it’s unusual,” says primary Dr. Zitt to VOL.AT. “You’ve gotten used to it in these three years. You almost feel a bit naked without a mask,” he explains during the VOL.AT visit to the dialysis station. It’s good to see emotions on the faces of patients and employees again. “It’s a very liberating feeling,” explains Breuss. “We’ve been waiting for it for a long time now.” In everyday work, it was very stressful to wear a mask all day. “It was a great joy for me,” says Sister Isolde Kordesch. It is important that the patients see the facial expressions again – especially older, hard of hearing and deaf mutes.

“I shaved again today”

With the mask off, certain habits have to be changed again. “I shaved again today so as not to lose my certain attractiveness without a mask,” says Dr. Zitt and smiles. The mask concealed a lot, he explains to VOL.AT. Physiotherapist Breuss also sees it this way: “That was the only advantage I had with the mask: that I didn’t shave so often,” he clarifies. Aside from the protection the mask brought. For sister Isolde, who wears neo-glasses, one thing in particular is really fine again: her glasses no longer run constantly without an FFP2 mask: “I was really looking forward to it,” she says.

Finally breathe properly again

Not having to wear the mask after such a long time is unusual. But is there a certain degree of uncertainty? “No, I think that’s now back in everyone’s flesh and blood,” says primary Dr. quote The regained freedom prevails. “I didn’t notice anything in that direction,” explains Breuss. Both employees and patients would have made friends with or come to terms with the changed situation. “I worked for many years without a mask before,” Sister Isolde explains. “Well, we’re all happy that we can finally breathe deeply again,” she concludes.

The current regulations for visitors can be found on the homepage of the Vorarlberg state hospitals. As before, a maximum of two visitors per patient are allowed at the same time.
