In the context of the mobilization against the pension reform, the Head of State welcomed the progress of the work, saying: “It’s when you set a course with an ambition that you make things happen .”

On this decisive Friday for the pension reform, with the long-awaited decision of the Constitutional Council on the text, Emmanuel Macron went to the site of Notre-Dame de Paris, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the fire which destroyed the building.

As part of his stroll through the nave of the cathedral, the President of the Republic notably exchanged with construction workers. When one of them tells him that they “are not giving up”, the head of state retorted:

“Don’t give up, that’s my motto. Stay the course, that’s my motto.”

“A course with an ambition”

A little phrase that does not appear insignificant in the context of the debates around pension reform. Emmanuel Macron presents himself as a president who does not back down and who assumes his choices, as he had already sketched during his interview with TF1 and France 2, during which he assured to be “ready to endorse unpopularity”

“It’s when you set a course with an ambition that you make things happen,” he added on Friday, welcoming in particular the progress of the site.

The cathedral forecourt was evacuated by the police shortly before his arrival. Indeed, several calls to gather there had circulated on social networks, to protest against the pension reform.
