STELLANTIS GROUP, an automobile manufacturer and mobility solutions provider resulting from the 50:50 merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Group (FCA), is guided by a clear vision: Mobility solutions provide freedom of movement. According to the group’s official website (English), it includes 15 auto brands, which are Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Fiat Commercial Vehicles, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, RAM, Vauxhall, covering all market segments from ultra-luxury, luxury, mainstream passenger cars to heavy-duty pickups, SUVs and light commercial vehicles. In addition, there are dedicated mobility, finance, parts and service brands.

Stellantis has completed the acquisition of aiMotive, one of the world’s largest independent automotive technology powerhouses developing level-agnostic autonomous driving solutions. The announcement comes a month after initial news of the Hungarian company joining. Yves Bonnefont, chief software officer at Stellantis, said the acquisition of aiMotive will accelerate Stellantis’ journey to become a sustainable mobility technology company and achieve the goals of its Dare Forward 2030 strategy.

“Benefiting from aiMotive’s world-class expertise, we will enhance our core AI and autonomous driving technologies, expand our global talent pool, and facilitate mid-term development of our new STLA AutoDrive platform,” added Bonnefont. With this acquisition, aiMotive will maintain its operational independence and will operate as a subsidiary of Stellantis. aiMotive founder László Kishonti will continue as CEO.

“In 2015, I started a company to develop technology to build the future of mobility for everyone,” Kishonti said. “I’m excited that seven years later we can contribute to Stellantis’ ambition to work together to make cars better, safer and smarter for millions of customers.” That said, Stellantis is preparing to form a board of directors to oversee aiMotive, retaining its entrepreneurial mindset of rapid innovation and autonomy in developing artificial intelligence and self-driving software.

aiMotive’s product portfolio includes three products: aiData, aiWare and aiSim. These technology solutions will still be operated by the company and delivered to third-party customers. A fourth product will join aiMotive’s product portfolio. It’s called aiDrive — an integrated software for autonomous driving. aiMotive’s innovations will be incorporated into three Stellantis technology platforms currently in development: STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit and STLA AutoDrive. This will be implemented in new vehicle architectures (STLA small, medium, large and frame) in 2024, which will greatly influence Stellantis’ digitalization strategy.

Earlier this year, Stellantis announced its Dare Forward 2030 goals. The plan is for 100% of European car sales to be electric by 2030. Stellantis has set a goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2038 and has set a 50% baseline for 2030.
