According to current media reports, the SPD, Greens and FDP parliamentary groups are presenting a draft law for electoral law reform. The greatly enlarged Bundestag is to shrink again – to the legally stipulated standard size of 598 MPs. Overhang and compensation mandates should therefore be abolished.
Stephan Brandner, Deputy Federal Spokesman for the Alternative for Germany, on this:
“The traffic light draft law is almost exactly what the AfD has been demanding for years and for which we submitted an application (printed matter 19/14066) more than three years ago and a draft law (printed matter 19/22894) in September 2020. Everything was rejected as usual by the block of old parties. And now the traffic light is implementing exactly our ideas. It could have been done sooner, but whatever it is: AfD is working. Our quality is catching on and the Bundestag is finally getting smaller!”
