Washington DC, United States.- The commercial dispute presented by the United States and Canada regarding the energy policy of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is still not resolved, confirmed the White House National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan.

Questioned by US journalists covering President Joe Biden’s visit to Mexico City, Sullivan said the United States will decide what steps to take after this week’s bilateral talks in Mexico.

“We believe that the consultations helped to clarify both the nature of our concerns and to identify some possible ways forward,” he said.

“But we’re not there yet. And we’ll make determinations on next steps based on how things play out here over the next few days.”

In July of this year, the governments of the US and Canada submitted a request for consultations under the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the US and Canada (T-MEC) denouncing the policies of López Obrador to favor Petróleos Mexicanos and the Federal Commission of the Electricity (CFE).

The first phase of trilateral energy talks to resolve the consultation concluded in October but the three countries agreed to extend them to find an agreement before launching an arbitration panel against Mexico.
