Strasbourg plunges Lyon a little more into doubt… – Debrief and NOTES from the players (Lyon 1-2 Strasbourg)

Dominant but surprised by the realism of the opposition, Olympique Lyonnais conceded a home defeat against Strasbourg (1-2) this Saturday.

Lyon can’t do it… Despite clearly dominating the game and in terms of chances (27 shots 8), the Rhone club conceded another defeat, the second in three league games, against Strasbourg (1- 2) this Saturday during the 19th day of Ligue 1. The desire was there, but not the success.

OL crack in four minutes

The Lyonnais clearly dominated the start of the game. From the start, Laurent Blanc’s players settled into the opposing half of the pitch and got the first scoring opportunities. After two fine collective movements, Toko Ekambi and Tolisso crossed their shots too much, which passed close to the upright. Behind, it was Cherki who had two opportunities to open the scoring, but the young talent from OL twice found Sels on his way.

Lyon, even without scoring, showed some interesting things in this encounter. But everything was going to change the half hour of play. While they had not shown much offensively, the Strasbourg opened the scoring on a beautiful volley from Aholou (0-1, 28th). A real blow to the head for Les Gones who even conceded a second goal from Diallo in the crowd after a playful action (0-2, 32nd)! Four catastrophic minutes for OL…

Lyon pushed, in vain…

In a tense atmosphere at Groupama Stadium, the Lyonnais could have sunk after these two strokes of fate. But the Rhone players, who will have shown desire until the end, revived before the break on a penalty from Lacazette (1-2, 45th + 2), obtained following a hand from Sissoko at the entrance to his surface. A reduction in the score which allowed Les Gones to believe in it in the second period.

After returning from the locker room, Lyon totally dominated the debates and pushed to equalize. But there was always a Strasbourg foot to push the ball back into the area or a lack of accuracy in the last gesture to find the frame. Despite pressure in front of the Alsatian goal until the last seconds, the score did not change until the final whistle. Another defeat and a third match in L1 without a win which risks hurting Lyon’s heads… Eighth in the standings, OL are now 17 points behind on the podium. For its part, Strasbourg is taking advantage of this success to get out of the red zone.

Chances, goals, an astonishing scenario and suspense right up to the last seconds… this match was very pleasant to watch. There was, of course, waste on both sides, but the meeting was lively from start to finish.

– On a corner hit by Prcic, the ball is pushed back to the near post. Near the halfpipe, Aholou takes the leather with a volley from the left which passes on the right of Lopes (0-1, 28th).

– On a clearance from Sels, two Lyonnais miss the ball and Gameiro takes the opportunity to end up in the area. The attacker steals his ball but Gusto comes back in time… before missing his intervention. Diallo throws himself to score close range (0-2, 32nd).

– Lacazette scores his penalty by taking Sels against the foot of a shot from the right (1-2, 45th + 2).

Already very good in the middle of the week against Lens, the Strasbourg goalkeeper was still excellent on the lawn of Lyon. The Strasbourg goalkeeper intervened perfectly in front of Cherki in the first period, then rejected two other attempts from the Lyon talent. He is also decisive on a strike from Tagliafico near his post, then huge on a recovery from close range Lacazette. With seven saves, he was decisive in this precious success for Racing, losing only on the Lacazette penalty.
