Stray, the game developed by the French studio BlueTwelve Studio has met with enormous success with cat enthusiasts. It is also used to save and adopt real stray cats by raising funds for shelters and associations.

Released on July 19, 2022, the Stray game developed by the French from BlueTwelve Studio immediately won over players. Stray puts players in the shoes of a ginger stray cat who evolves in a cyberpunk universe. The game seduced feline lovers, but also all players who enjoyed the adventure from this unique point of view. Even cats like to see Stray on the TV screen. Stray also participates in save the real stray cats in the world.

Since its release, the Stray game has allowed raise funds for shelters and associations around the world. Several thousand dollars have thus been donated to shelters that rescue and rehabilitate stray cats before their adoption. Moreover, associations have used mods in Stray to highlight cats available for adoption. Players can actually create mods to play with their furball.

Thousands of dollars have been raised to help cats in shelters thanks to Stray

In the United States, the Humane Society of Nebraska sold several Stray game codes through its Twitter account. A code was sold for 5 dollars. In total, approximately $8,000 was raised for the shelter. This phenomenon is not limited to the United States. Indeed, volunteer Rafael Almeida from the Brazilian shelter Gatos De Francisca specializing in felines also raised funds through the game Stray. He organized a raffle which allowed him to have enough money to sterilize 25 stray cats.

Video game streamers have also taken part in this cause with Stray. For example, one of them harvested just over $1,500 in less than 30 minutes to help the cats. That’s not all. Annapurna Interactive which is the publisher of Stray has officially sponsored a 5 kilometer walk in honor of cats. Thereby, the Stray Cat Relief Fund raised $6,500 thanks to this event.

The best independent game of the year 2022 therefore made it possible to raise funds for shelters and associations, but also to draw the attention of players to the adoption of cats. In France, for example, the number of cats in homes has been constantly increasing for several years. Unfortunately, the number of abandonments of our feline friends is also increasing. In 2021, the SPA noted an increase in the number of kittens in shelters by 30% compared to 2019. The awareness that Stray brings to stray cats is therefore still a good boost.
