The PS5 will no longer be the machine of choice for Street Fighter 5 ranked tournaments. Capcom has announced that official tournaments will now use the PC, something players have been waiting for for several years now.

After several years of Street Fighter V tournaments, Sony’s home console is finally hanging up its belt. The PlayStation will no longer be the go-to machine for big game tournaments. The PS5 will therefore be replaced by the PC which has the advantage of having less input lag and better fluidity on Street Fighter 5.

For competitive players, this announcement is a big relief. They have actually been asking for several years that the PlayStation be replaced by the PC in major competitions. The main reason is that the PlayStation version of Street Fighter 5 has major latency issues compared to the PC version, among others.

Next Street Fighter tournaments will be run at 144Hz with the move to PC

The next and final ranked tournament in Street Fighter 5 is the Capcom Cup Tournament which will begin on February 12. The next competitions will actually be held on Street Fighter 6, which is expected to be released on June 2, 2023. On Twitter, Capcom announced that all official tournaments will now use the PC as their official platform.

Competitive players of fighting games will thus be able to enjoy a smoother 144Hz refresh rate. The input lag that players dread so much on the PlayStation 5 will also be considerably reduced. Capcom has thus fulfilled the wishes of players who asked to compete under better conditions on Street Fighter.

In addition, Capcom did not provide additional details on the PC configuration that will be used for Street Fighter 5 in tournament. The move to PC for Street Fighter ranked tournaments may not be final. Indeed, Street Fighter 6 should offer better performance on PS5 with less latency. PS5, Xbox Series X/S and even PC versions will benefit from these improvements. It is therefore not impossible that future Street Fighter 6 tournaments will be organized on PS5.

Moreover, Sony is preparing for its part to launch a new PS5 in April 2023 before focusing on the PS6. The PlayStation could therefore possibly become the machine of choice again for fighting game competitions.
