FRESNO, California – A street vendor program is helping immigrant workers in the Central Valley get ahead. This Thursday, eight beneficiaries received $1,000 to support their businesses.

The Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation (FAHF), Cultiva La Salud and the City of Fresno offer technical and financial support for mobile workers.

To earn the $1,000, applicants must complete 50 hours of training covering accounting, permitting, licensing and legal entities, and marketing.

The course also guides the beneficiaries to develop a business plan and technical advice according to the needs of the participants.

The support provided by this program means that small business owners will receive personalized assistance with their business plan.

Street vendors also receive security cameras to install on their mobile carts. Consuelo Cruz was one of the eight beneficiaries of the program. “This helps a lot because I want to be more professional, I can progress my business.”

“We have the opportunity to sell where we want, they are giving us everything we need, it is easier for us,” thanked the worker, who has just started her business selling corn.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP?

These are the requirements to be eligible for assistance:

  • Have 10 or fewer employees.
  • Businesses must be operating in the City of Fresno.
  • Businesses must have their City of Fresno business license active and in good standing. terms with the city of Fresno.
  • Businesses must prove they have been impacted by COVID-19
  • Complete the business plan.
