“A Associação de Estudantes da Faculdade de Economia da Universidade do Porto (AEFEP) has just launched a university car-pooling app – ‘USHARE by AEFEP’ – which aims to provide a more economical and ecological mobility alternative for the entire community of the University of Porto Porto”, reads a statement released today by FEP.

According to the faculty, “approximately 40 thousand people, including students, teachers and employees, will be able to benefit from this ‘car-pooling’ solution (shared ride) which is based on sharing a vehicle and the expenses of a trip between several passengers”.

The application appears “in collaboration with the junior company of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (JuniFEUP)”, appearing “as a restructuring of an old FEP habit – the FEPianas rides – in which students combined rides with each other through a page on Facebook”.

To use the application, “it is necessary to register in the application, using the institutional e-mail of the University of Porto and from there search and/or provide rides to a given destination”.

“After finding a viable option for the driver and passenger, a contact is established to combine the details of the route: time, place of departure, costs, etc.”, with the application available both in the Google Play Store and in the Apple App Store .

The president of AEFEP, Francisco Porto Fernandes, said he believed that the ‘app’ “will be an excellent way of integrating first-year college students, for example, some of whom are displaced and sometimes have difficulty meeting students who share the same reality”.

The academic leader also said that students will thus be able to save “time and resources, being environmentally responsible”.
