Ukraine defends Europe’s unity against Russian aggression. And it is precisely for this unity that the Aachen Charlemagne Prize stands, which Selenskyj was able to receive personally on Sunday. For himself, but even more for his long-suffering people. Bravo! Anyone who has retained a feeling for the core of the European idea in the face of the often bloodless EU reality will finally be able to applaud wholeheartedly again. All criticism of the awarding of the prize is in vain, for example Zelenskyj does not deserve the prize because he refuses to negotiate with Russia. When a power-hungry despot like Putin denies the existence of Ukraine as an independent nation, he is opposing the idea of European unity and peace in the most fundamental way imaginable. That is why the people of Ukraine are undoubtedly the best Europeans at the moment.
