Almost 40 years ago, no one probably expected this The Toxic Avenger gets a real Hollywood remake. Shot on a budget of $500,000, the trash gem became a real cult classic that made fun of itself decades before the big superhero hype.
Now The Toxic Avenger returns to cinemas and will celebrate its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2023 – but there is no German start date yet. The new edition is said to be in no way inferior to the original in terms of its level of violence and depiction of nudity, although fans shouldn’t expect a 1:1 remake.
Who is the Trash new edition coming from and with?
By the way, it’s for directing Macon Blair responsible, who we previously saw primarily in front of the camera – such as in Oppenheimer, Reservation Dogs or Swamp Things. The cast of The Toxic Avenger is definitely not from bad parents, including actors like Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Elijah Wood (Lord of the rings), Kevin Bacon (Footloose) and Taylor Paige (Zola) involved.
There is no official trailert, but here are the first pictures in which Frodo actor Elijah Wood is hardly recognizable – the parallels to Danny DeVito’s penguin from Batman Returns are hard to miss and yes, Tyrion Lannister actor Peter Dinklage is really in a tutu:

In case you’re wondering what The Toxic Avenger is all about: In the new edition, the plot revolves around the janitor Winston Gooze (Peter Dinklage), who falls into a barrel of toxic waste and then transforms into the titular… superhero. He then declares war on the corrupt powers of his hometown.
