Suspected in fatally running over boy in Hyde Park to court

The suspect in fatally running over a four-year-old boy in the Hyde Park section of Boston last month will be arraigned Tuesday.

Police said Olguens Joseph, 30, turned himself in on Monday.

It was surveillance video that may have helped open the case. A neighbor sent photos of the gray Chevrolet Spark that police believed he was involved with outside a Mattapan home.

Court documents say that when police went to interview Joseph at his home, he denied being involved in the accident, but three days after the incident, he returned the car to the man he recently bought it from, saying it was too much. small for your family.

Investigators tracked the car to an auto repair shop, and the damage to the vehicle, combined with surveillance video that located the car near the crash site, led to a warrant for Joseph’s arrest Monday afternoon.

“That happened as a result of tremendous community collaboration,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. “We asked for the community’s help on this matter, and we got the help.”

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu also commented on the case.

“I am very grateful for all the efforts and I am very glad that there is now this moment of responsibility,” Mayor Wu said. “We continue to grieve for Iván along with his entire family.”

Joseph now faces the following charges in the case: motor vehicle manslaughter, leaving the scene of personal injury and death, as well as driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
