Target cuts prices to attract low-income customers

Target plans to reduce prices on about 5,000 consumer staples this summer.

According to the department store chain, this comes as inflation cuts into household budgets and more Americans pay closer attention to their spending.

The price reduction includes products from the food, beverage and essential items sectors.

The commercial strategy seeks to attract those customers who have deployed a series of tactics to find relief at the cash registers.

In a statement, the company said that the discounts will be implemented in its own and national brands, and that they are added to the low prices already in force.

Target detailed that customers will be able to get reduced prices on foods such as milk, bread, fruits and vegetables; but also in other products such as diapers and pet food.
