Tax Free Weekend Arrives for School Supplies

HOUSTON – With the return to school in the different school districts of Houston, there is an opportunity that you should not miss if you are going to do some shopping for your children.

This weekend, from Friday to Sunday at midnight, the tax-free weekend for school products and supplies will take place throughout the state.

Some of the items that will not pay taxes this weekend are clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks, among others.

For every $100 you buy, you’ll save about $8, which is the equivalent of Texas sales tax.

It will be held on August 16 between 9 am and 12 pm

“This sales tax holiday gives Texas families a little relief in managing the costs associated with children returning to the classroom,” said Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.

This office estimates that Texans will save about $112 million by not having to pay sales tax over the weekend.
