Final sprint for the declaration of property tax: January 31 is the end. These penalties threaten if the owners submit the documents too late.

The number of property tax returns received at the Bottrop tax office has risen sharply in the past few days. “So far, 21,316 declarations have been made in the Bottrop tax office, around 55 percent. The number of deliveries has tripled in the last few weeks. We notice very clearly that the property tax final sprint has begun,” explains Dennis Nosthoff, head of the office. The submission deadline is January 31st.

If the tax office does not receive the declaration by January 31, a reminder will be sent for the fee. If the owner does not submit the declaration afterwards, the tax office will estimate the tax base. In addition, the tax authorities have the option of setting a surcharge for delays or even setting a penalty payment.

Property tax: 90 percent of returns are submitted digitally

The digital information platform of the financial administration www.grundsteuer.nrw.de supports owners in preparing the property tax return. So far, more than 90 percent of the declarations received by the North Rhine-Westphalian tax offices have been submitted digitally. The digital submission is via the Elster online tax office at www.elster.de possible.
