While some scam cases only have a financial impact, others can be fatal, destroying lives.
This case tells the tragic story of Abdelaziz, a young mechanic from Bir El Ater, Algeria. Abdelaziz was the victim of an incredible and dramatic story that began with the theft of his car and which unfortunately ended in his death from a stroke.
It was through a video that Echourouk News gave the floor to the victim’s brother who testified to Abdelaziz’s appalling misadventure.
As he often did, Abdelaziz put his car up for sale to supplement his income as a mechanic, at the city’s specialized market. According to his brother, a customer interested in the car, who came from another wilaya, then came to see him and even advanced a deposit (a kind of deposit) as a pledge of his good faith.
However, events turned out badly for the mechanic, the father of a family. What must have been one of the most common commercial transactions to turn into a real scam.
A well-crafted scam
It turned out that the customer who bought the car was actually a thief who had already planned everything from the start.
The plan was simple: delay the sale to steal the car. While Abdelaziz agreed to meet at the town hall with the buyer to finalize the sale and transfer of ownership of the vehicle, the latter took the floor to make a most astonishing remark.
Indeed, after having signed the papers, he affirms: “your car is new for its year. I have to check it with an engineer ».
Although it seemed strange to Abdelaziz, he did not refuse the proposal, as he was still waiting to receive the rest of the money for the sale. Of course it was all a ruse. Once there, the man fled with the car leaving Abdelaziz without a car but above all without money.
An endless legal battle that led Abdelaziz to his downfall
The mechanic acted very quickly by deciding to file a complaint. From then on, the thief was arrested and convicted at first instance and on appeal.
Thanks to this judgment, Abdelaziz expected to recover his vehicle, but what was his disappointment when he learned that his battle was far from over. She indeed he had to file a request with the justice to recover it.
His brother says: “The story of justice took two years. My brother was very impacted. He hadn’t been the same since the whole thing.”
Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to recover his car and seek justice, Abdelaziz was deeply affected by this case and the consequences were fatal. He ended up succumbing to a stroke, leaving behind a widow and four children.
