Shenzhen, China (ots/PRNewswire)

– Huawei and its global partners hosted a media roundtable at HAS2023.

At a media roundtable held yesterday at the Huawei Global Analyst Summit 2023, Huawei and its global partners presented the latest TECH4ALL practices and discussed how digital technology can enable a more inclusive and sustainable digital world.

During the session, several of Huawei’s global TECH4ALL partners made updates on projects currently underway around the world. A key message was that the powerful combination of technology and partnerships was fundamental to each project in order to achieve positive results.

“All of our efforts in TECH4ALL initiatives have only been possible through the combination of technology and partnerships,” said Jeffrey Zhou, president of ICT Marketing for Huawei, in his opening remarks at the roundtable.

Since launching the initiative in 2019, Huawei has worked closely with governments, customers, international organizations, research institutes, and NGOs to shape the social value of digital technology as much as possible.

Promoting equity and quality in education

To drive inclusion and help build sustainable futures, TECH4ALL educational projects have reached 220,000 beneficiaries worldwide so far. Primary beneficiaries are the remote and rural communities, as well as underserved groups, including women and girls, unemployed youth, people with disabilities, the elderly, and K12 students and teachers.

During the roundtable, YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation presented its vision and highlighted how technology-enabled support platforms help rural teachers through online training to develop their professional skills and confidence.

“The greatest development is human development. In the future, we would like to work with Huawei to improve rural education through technology,” said Hui Ling, secretary-general of YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation.

Conservation of nature through technology

In the field of sustainability and conservation, TECH4ALL projects have contributed to the efficient conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable management of natural resources in 46 protected areas around the world. This includes 5 pilot projects under the Tech4Nature partnership established in 2020 between Huawei and International Union for Conservation of Nature.

“When we talk about biodiversity and land-based conservation, technology can really help us monitor and strengthen reporting on biodiversity, climate and land-based conservation goals,” said Khalid Pasha, Asia Coordinator, IUCN Asia Regional Office.

During the roundtable, the TECH4ALL partner C Mind informed about the Mexico Tech4Nature project. Launched with IUCN May 2022, C Minds and other local partners, the project harnesses the power of AI and community-focused approaches to protect biodiversity in the Dzilam State Reserve, including the endangered North American jaguar.

“The use of technology offers the opportunity to raise conservation measures to an unprecedented level and ensure a shorter period. In this case, what was achieved was that the results of years of manual labeling and data interpretation could be achieved in less than 1 year of collaborative technology and partnerships. This also provides an opportunity to have transparent and measurable impacts,” said Regina Cervera Pacheco, project coordinator for C Minds.

Use of IT to promote rural development

ITU-D also attended the meeting to provide information about the Smart Village Pakistan project. Launched in January 2023, this project model accelerates the impact of multiple SDGs by increasing last-minute access and enabling remote villages to access a range of digital services, including e-health, e-education and e-commerce granted, so that the quality of life and economic opportunities can be improved here.

“Pakistan is ITU’s first Smart Village program in Asia-Pacific under the Smart Villages and Smart Islands initiative. We are very proud to work with the Government of Pakistan and Huawei in this regard. These types of pilots also bring in new partners who can make even bigger changes. I want to thank all those who decided to make this a success story,” said Ashish Narayan, program coordinator at the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

As the TECH4ALL partners at the media roundtable clearly demonstrate what working together with common goals can achieve in practice, Huawei hopes to continue inclusiveness and sustainability through innovative technologies, as well as the opportunity to build long-term partnerships.
