Tesla class action plaintiffs want full or partial compensation for their electric car

Tesla employees internally shared images and videos taken by on-board cameras in electric cars. They obviously did not have the consent of the owners of these cars. These images taken from 2019 to 2022 were sometimes embarrassing and even compromising situations for drivers. For example, employees shared images of a child on a bicycle being hit by a Tesla or those of a naked man walking towards a car. They also had fun internally releasing images of pets inside cars as memes.

Henry Yeh, a Model Y owner behind the class action, says the lawsuit was filed ” against Tesla on its behalf, similarly situated class members and the general public “. All Tesla drivers who have leased or purchased an electric car since 2019 can join the class action. The plaintiffs ask compensation from Tesla corresponding to the total or partial cost of their electric car.

They also demand that Tesla stop save, share and view images and videos captured by car cameras. In the lawsuit filed against Tesla, they also want all personal data that infringes the privacy of car owners to be permanently deleted.
