Withdrawal from the Russian market meant that many western companies simply went out of business last year. At the network supplier Cisco, this process was much more tangible – and therefore lasted longer.

The US group completed its exit from the Russian market in January with the remaining employees physically destroying the remaining inventories. These were essentially replacement parts for the manufacturer’s network systems worth over $23 million. This comes from a report by the Russian news agency TASS out.

Cisco had already announced a year ago that it would discontinue operations in Russia. This began a lengthy process of winding up the state subsidiary. Three months later, the company refused to renew licenses and said it would withdraw from Russia and Belarus permanently, not just for the duration of the war of aggression against Ukraine.

Clean handling

By mid-2022, formal issues in particular were clarified – such as the termination of numerous support contracts with customers. This was gradually followed by the dismissal of most employees and the further processing of business activities. In the end there were still five employees who, among other things, had the task of ensuring that no high-tech products that were still in the warehouse remained functional when the keys were handed over.

In addition, the company’s balance sheets reported the destruction of all fixed assets. This is simply the equipment with which employees could do their jobs. This ranged from office equipment, furniture and demonstration equipment to company cars. Thus, the dissolution could now officially be completed.
