Police and firefighters found Rudolph “Rudy” Farias IV, now 25, at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday after receiving a call about a person lying on the ground outside a southeast Houston church. said police spokesman John Cannon.
It is currently unknown where Farias has been for the past eight years, Cannon said. At the moment he is hospitalized. Police investigators have not yet spoken to him.
“What we do know is that by the time he recovered, a Good Samaritan saw him unconscious and immediately called the police and 911. My son Rudy is getting the care he needs to get over his trauma, but at this time he is not speaking and is not able to communicate with us,” Janie Santana, Farias’ mother, said in a statement.
Houston police tweeted Monday afternoon that they planned to speak with Farias and his family on Wednesday.
The Center for the Disappeared Texas was the first to report the Farias find in a tweet posted Saturday. The agency handles public communications on behalf of his family.
“We know that when a loved one goes missing, this is the day every family dreams of: reunification. We are grateful that Rudy has been located and is receiving the care he needs,” the center said in a statement released Monday.
Farias was 17 when she was reported missing on March 6, 2015, after she walked her two dogs near her family’s northeast Houston residence. The dogs were later found.
Houston police and Texas Equusearch, a civilian search and recovery team, searched for Farias but found no trace of him.
When Farias disappeared, Texas Equusearch reported that the young man was suffering from depression and anxiety, and may have been disoriented because he was not taking his medications. He also suffered from asthma and had a slight limp due to an injury to his right leg.
“According to his mother, he is very leery of strangers,” Texas Equusearch said in 2015.
