The police have evidence to charge with premeditated murder, crime punishable by capital punishment, the son of a Spanish actor, Daniel Sancho, who confessed to having killed and dismembered Edwin Arrieta, a Colombian surgeon, on the tourist island of Koh Pha Ngan, in Thailand, the person in charge of the investigation told AFP.

“We have enough evidence and now it is up to the court to start the trial,” Somsak Nurod, head of investigation at the Koh Pha Ngan police station, told AFP.

Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, appeared before a judge on Monday and is now being held in a Thai jail.

Sancho Bronchalo, son of actor Rodolfo Sancho, known for his roles in series such as “Al salir de clase” or “El ministerio del tiempo”, entered Thailand as a tourist on July 31.

Police found body parts in a dump on this island that they believe belong to Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a 44-year-old Colombian plastic surgeon.

Images from video surveillance cameras obtained by the police show Sancho and Arrieta together on a motorcycle before the remains of the Colombian were found.

On Sunday, Daniel Sancho accompanied investigators to multiple locations where he had allegedly disposed of the remains of his victim’s body.

Police said the motives for the killing were unclear.

The family of Daniel Sancho, who had worked as a chef, is in contact with the Spanish embassy in Bangkok.

The actor’s agent issued a statement asking for “maximum respect” for the privacy of the family “in these delicate and completely confusing moments.”

His lawyer told reporters on Monday that his client was relaxed and is undergoing a 10-day period of isolation for the coronavirus inside the prison.

For its part, the Colombian consulate in the Thai capital also made itself available to the victim’s family.

Thailand is a relatively safe country where violent crime is not common.

Koh Pha Ngan is one of its main tourist attractions, for its white sand beaches and its well-known “Full Moon Parties”.

In 2017, another Spanish citizen, Artur Segarra, was convicted of murdering a Spanish businessman in Bangkok, dismembering him and disposing of the body parts in the Chao Praya river that crosses the Thai capital.
