The SC Potsdam volleyball team has already won the Supercup this season. On Sunday they now want to up their game and secure the second title in their club’s history in the German Cup final against Schweriner SC (4.45 p.m., live on Sport1). “It would be a dream for me to win the trophy for the first time, and with the club I feel at home at,” said SCP captain Laura Emonts.

The 31-year-old national player plays a key role in the Potsdam women’s game. “It’s extremely important for us,” emphasizes sporting director Toni Rieger. Emonts had recently been sidelined for quite a while due to knee problems, but was back in the starting lineup on Tuesday in the first leg of the CEV Cup quarter-finals against Scandicci (0-3). “It’s good for her to get competition practice,” says Rieger.

SC Potsdam has a lot of respect for the seven-time cup winner from Schwerin. “The odds are fifty-fifty,” says Rieger. His assessment: “Schwerin has more experience. In order to be successful there, we have to get into the game well and then get into a flow.”

According to SCP trainer Hernandez, the additional stress caused by the difficult game in the CEV Cup on Tuesday does not play a role in the upcoming cup final. “My team loves to play and compete with other teams. As a result, the many games actually benefit us more,” says the 45-year-old Spaniard, who has been in charge of the Potsdam team since 2018.

For their part, the women from Schwerin managed the feat of knocking out champion and cup defender MTV Stuttgart 3:2 (15:8 in the tiebreak) in the semifinals away from home. For Schwerin’s captain Anna Pogany, the outcome of the cup final is still completely open: “The form on the day will be important.” (dpa)
