2023 is here and now it’s time to look at what’s next. For gamers, the year promises to be very well served, with the return of classics, sequences of giant names and new titles that should start a sequence of their own.

Horror, for example, is very well represented with the remakes of Dead Space and resident Evil 4which arrive at the beginning of the year, not to mention alan wake 2, which comes later. In 2023, the beating will also eat in street fighter 6while the fight of the heroes continues on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. and still have Starfieldthe new open world game from Bethesda, full of promises of worlds to be explored.

It’s so much new that it’s even difficult to make a list of just 10, but we tried. Check out the 10 most anticipated games of 2023:

10. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Cal Kestis is stronger and more confident about his role after learning the hard way what it means to be one of the last remnants of the Jedi Order. But that doesn’t mean that the challenges ahead will be easier, on the contrary, as the Empire also becomes more powerful and dominant every day.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues what developer Respawn started in 2019 with Fallen Order. The focus, again, is on exploring worlds with Kestis’ powers, along with the narrative focus that shows the period between the New Trilogy films and the space saga classics. The plot here even takes place in the same year as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which already makes many people expect a meeting between the two characters.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives March 17, 2023 for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

9. Dead Space

Here, we are also in space, but in a completely different one. After nearly a decade of hiatus, Electronic Arts’ horror franchise returns in a big way, inspired by other recent turns and intent on bringing back Isaac Clarke’s nightmare. Contrary to the cliché, headshots are not that effective.

Dead Space puts us inside a ship adrift, whose only inhabitants are the necromorphic monsters that emerged from experiments with a bizarre artifact. The protagonist must survive using tools and technology, while developer Motive’s promise is an even more visceral terror, faithful to the classic but new elements and gameplay that make it even scarier.

the remake of Dead Space arrives January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

8. Street Fighter 6

A striking graphic style and a character builder are just some of the hallmarks of the new edition of one of Capcom’s most established franchises. Veterans like Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li return alongside (or against) new warriors in a new championship full of personality and new ways to play.

In street fighter 6, the beating goes beyond just one-on-one fights. We also have an open world to explore, with our own character, and a new way to face opponents. Capcom added a control mode aimed at beginners alongside the traditional one, as well as the Drive Gauge system, which allows the use of different combat tactics according to the style of each user and the progress of the battles.

street fighter 6 arrives June 2 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PlayStation 5. An arcade version, exclusive to Japan, also arrives in 2023.

7. Diablo IV

Another long wait will come to an end when the latest installment of one of Blizzard’s most classic games lands in players’ hands. Five different types of characters clash head-on with the forces of evil in randomly generated dungeons and on the hunt for items and artifacts that enhance their abilities for what lies ahead.

With new and old elements, Diablo IV will take us through five regions, including hell itself, with an open world exploration that involves yet another complex system of item creation and character customization. Content seasons add elements and change the course of combats, while even the amount of online users will change according to the evil domain and the desolation of the areas, in relation to the most populated cities, for example.

Serving as a direct sequel to its predecessor Diablo IV arrives June 6 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PlayStation 5, with progression and shared multiplayer across all platforms.

6. Alan Wake 2

Every great work deserves a sequel and this is one that everyone, except perhaps the author himself, has been eagerly awaiting. After a successful remastering of the original horror game and an absolute success with the unusual ControlRemedy returns to one of its most consecrated works, fulfilling an old desire.

The focus, again, falls on terror, with Alan Wake 2 bringing back the concept of light as salvation and shadow as the residence of all that is evil. While details about the new game are still scarce, we can already look forward to the classic mix between scenes with real actors and game graphics, while the developer must use and abuse technologies related to lighting, a central element of the gameplay.

alan wake 2 arrives in 2023, without a specific date, in PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions.

5. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Webhead’s new adventure through the universe created by developer Insomniac brings him alongside well-known figures. Miles Morales, who replaced him during a short vacation, is at his side, but against them, comes Venom, which promises to add a spice of madness to a game that was already quite impressive in its first version.

In the sequel, the promise is much more. New York City is set to become even more impressive with the power of Sony’s new generation of consoles, while old stories are to be continued. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 there is still little information released, but the fans’ anxiety is already great for this new episode of Amigo da Neighborhood.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 expected to arrive in 2023, exclusively for the PS5; the exact date, however, has not been revealed yet.

4. Final Fantasy XVI

Another PlayStation 5 exclusive, the new chapter in Square Enix’s best-known saga takes us to Valisthea, a region of deep political conflict. While the struggle for power involves the domination of magic crystals, a wave of destruction begins to spread across the kingdoms, while the protagonist Clive begins his journey of revenge against one of the responsible entities.

With the proposal to reinvigorate the franchise, Final Fantasy XVI tries, at the same time, to apply the modern dynamics that worked so well in the most recent games, but without losing the classic atmosphere of the series. The result of this is the appearance of classic figures like Ifrit and the Chocobos alongside new elements and a more agile gameplay, which mixes hand-to-hand combat with magic to constitute one of the best modern examples of action RPG.

Final Fantasy XVI arrives June 22, 2023 as a PS5 timed exclusive.

3. Starfield

Bethesda’s newest masterpiece takes its quirky universe-building style and sprawling open world, full of quirky quests and characters, to full power. As the name already indicates, outer space will be the field of exploration in what is the brand’s first original franchise in 25 years and, also, an event widely anticipated by players.

Starfield takes place 300 years in our future, when a great war has broken out between the two factions that control the universe. While a fragile peace reigns between the colonies, the player takes on the role of a space explorer who will delve into both the conflicts and the novelties brought by the conquest of space, with technology and visuals inspired by real technologies, from today, but extrapolated to centuries in the future.

Bethesda’s new game should arrive in the first half of 2023; Starfield is planned for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

2. Resident Evil 4

One of the greatest action games of all time returns with a very different look. Leon’s mission in an isolated village in Europe, looking for the kidnapped daughter of the president of the USA, exchanges the shooting airs of the original for a more horror-focused opportunity, similar to that of recent Capcom remakes. Mainly courtesy of the current graphics set, much more realistic and violent.

Revolutionizing it again is a herculean task, as is the very idea of bringing back such an acclaimed title. The company, however, has already done this once, with the remake of Resident Evil 2, and now, it wants to do it again with the fourth title in the franchise and its plot full of classic characters and unforgettable events. Fortunately, there is little left to discover what this mix between new and old will lead to.

resident Evil 4 arrives March 24 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PlayStation 5.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The sequel to the Nintendo Switch debut game achieved the feat of being as anticipated as its predecessor, if not more. By following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the “Big N” arrives with years of experience with its new console in its luggage, but also a great responsibility to deliver something that is, at the same time, worthy of the quality we have already seen in breath of the wild and fresh enough to delight again.

From what we’ve seen so far, she seems to have pulled it off. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, combat takes place not only on the ground, but also in the skies, with a verticality that should further expand the already vast scenarios of the original. The war, too, rages on, with Link in the lead role and, once again, shouldering the brunt of being Hyrule’s main defender.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrives May 12 exclusively for Switch.
