This feature film, which will be directed by Dean DeBlois, at the helm of the original trilogy, will be released in cinemas in 2025.

Completed in 2019, the Dreamworks franchise Dragons will continue, but in the form of a live-action film, Universal Studios announced on Wednesday. Dean DeBlois, already at the helm of the original trilogy, will write and direct this new film, which is scheduled for release in March 2025.

Dragons (Or How to Train Your Dragon in English) is set in the world of the Vikings and follows the adventures of young Harold who becomes friends with an injured dragon, Toothless. It has not been specified whether this live-action film will be a remake of the franchise’s first feature film or a new chapter.

Global Success

The saga, which collected at the box office the sum of 1.6 billion dollars, is inspired by books signed Cressida Cowell. The success of Dragons inspired three television series as well as rides at Universal theme parks and a live show, How to Train Your Dragon on Ice.

The strategy of producing a live action version of Dragons is reminiscent of that of Disney, which launched a decade ago in a series of live action adaptations of their great animated classics. The next one, a re-reading of The little Mermaidwill arrive in May.
