Russian developer Mundfish just finished their upcoming title Atomic Heart, but came under fire two weeks ago for their statement on Russia’s war on Ukraine, which was both considered unclear and that they never explicitly said they didn’t support Russia.

Now AIN.Capital released a report showing that Mundfish is once again acting questionably. Among other things, they have noted in the Russian privacy policy that user data from the company’s online store is not necessarily private, but may be shared with various Russian authorities. The report also states that the policy follows “Russian mobilization laws, under which soldiers are currently being recruited in Russia to continue the criminal war against Ukraine”. Add to that that Mundfish has its legal address in Russia and that Atomic Heart “sponsored by Russian investors”without saying more about who these are.

After GamesRadar contacted Mundfish about these findings, the company responded this way about collecting user data:

“Our game and website DO NOT collect any information or data. The website’s privacy statement is outdated and wrong, and should have been removed years ago. We have shut down the shop to assure our fans of the integrity of our studio and products. We apologize for any confusion on this matter.”

However, they did not mention the other allegations, so we suspect that Atomic Heart (a game about a future Soviet Union) will continue to be a controversial title as it is difficult to tell how much the Russian regime is involved in the product in various ways – not least its content.
