It’s official, at least according to the Game Awards: Bayonetta 3 is the best action game of the past year and to tell the truth, it does not deserve its prize. The last adventure of the most fearsome witch in video games was already great, but this rather substantial new update comes to further refine the experience…
But what is this sorcery
With onion-like gameplay even more enjoyable than before, an extravagant sense of excess and a plethora of ideas that punctuate an epic as fun as it is preposterous, Bayonetta 3 is a very good vintage. A game expected like the messiah for years and which finally offered itself last October and despite its award for Best Action Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2022 or a nice 19/20 collected in our columns, the developers still had to rebalance a few things.
This is how PlatinumGames is rolling out update 1.20 for the Nintendo exclusive: this one turns out to be frankly consistent and the players should feel it pass since it comes to retouch a lot of parameters, some of which turn out to be rather important.

First, it is the character of Viola who is affected. As a reminder, if Bayonetta only has to dodge at the last moment to activate “Witch Time”famous slow motion that allows you to take the advantage over your opponent, Viola must parry the blows at the last moment and therefore take more risks.
The studio therefore announces that the parade activation window has been widened: in other words, it’s easier to counter hits and “Witch Time” triggers easier. In addition, the latter has been lengthened! We can therefore say that Bayonetta 3 is a little easier than before and that is not common in the world of Japanese beat ’em all.
Always to widen the accessibility, Niflheim proofs have also been simplified. Not all, but some hardships have seen the maximum time granted to the player (to complete the corresponding challenge) extended for several tens of seconds.

Note also that the secret chapter that could be unlocked (corresponding to a playable demo of the prequel Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon which will be released very soon) is now easier: the conditions for obtaining the Tricolor Keys are automatically available on the chapter selection screen. All you have to do is buy the bonus chapter in the store.
At last, we can also mention the fluidification of the gameplay on certain points (still concerning Viola) or the resolution of many bugs for a simply more stable experience and, obviously, a little easier to access. Rest assured, the difficulty modes and scoring system are still there to give you a hard time.
