If the end of The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular endings for series fans, it nevertheless almost had a completely different ending. After twelve seasons, the fiction has indeed said goodbye by giving a nod to the very first episode, but also by delivering a final scene which will obviously speak to all fans. In this final opus, the heroes return from their trip to Stockholm, where Sheldon and Amy received the Nobel Prize. The band thus finds itself in apartment 4A for their usual dinner. A perfect moment that concludes this series as it should, which also indicates with this finale that even if the fiction ends, their friendship continues. The Big Bang Theory : here’s what other ending almost came to light

While Johnny Galecki, the interpreter of Leonard, revealed that a plot of the end has “shocked“, producers Steve Holland and Steve Molaro made further revelations in Jessica Radloff’s book, The Big Bang Theory : The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series. The two men have indeed raised the possibility of another sequence to conclude The Big Bang Theory and it has to do with the famous elevator. They confirmed that Chuck Lorre, the co-creator, always wanted the elevator to be fixed and this to be the final scene. But as season 12 episodes progressed, they decided not to. “Chuck Lorre always thought that the opening of the elevator doors could, perhaps, be the final scene. But as we got closer to the end, we felt that this is what people were waiting for. We wanted to do it, but mostly we wanted to try to catch people off guard“, confided Steve Molaro.

Why do the producers of The Big Bang Theory didn’t want to keep the first ending that had been imagined?

“In one of the versions that we imagined, the heroes climbed all the stairs after returning from the airport and their trip to Stockholm. And just as they got to the fourth floor, the elevator rang and the doors opened.“, unveiled Steve Holland. And to add: “There was even talk that at one point Sheldon and Amy would say, ‘This is crazy; we won the Nobel Prize and, in a way, everything is exactly the same’, and then the elevator would open, and that would have been the end of the series. But ultimately, we thought this event would be much less expected if it happened earlier in the episode.“. It is indeed this last option that they chose because the elevator is well repaired in the end of The Big Bang Theory but the characters use it before leaving for Stockholm. A real surprise that did not disappoint the fans.
