At the cultural center Blå stål in Angered, there was a long row of book tables that welcomed the visitors during this weekend’s edition of the book fair. There was a large turnout of visitors who were treated to nearly a hundred program items on Saturday and Sunday. The project manager for the book fair, Madde Lundin, was happy that they managed to put together such a broad program.

– It is an extra large program, we have gone big because we want to celebrate these five years together with the Angeredsborna.

International stars in place

Angered’s book fair was started in 2018 to give space to writers and poets from the past. Since its inception, the book fair has grown in size. Despite a canceled book fair last year, there were over 200 participants this year, both unknown and known.

– For the first time, we have international stars on site, which we are very happy to have here.

On site during the weekend were better-known names such as the British-Somali poet Warsan Shire and the Somali food blogger Khadija Mohamud. Another novelty for this year’s edition was also a Somali book fair on Sunday, which Ahmed Nour helped organize.

– It’s very exciting, there are, among other things, ten Somali authors who talk about the language and their books.
