Some recall slips have already been issued, now it’s back to the next round…

“Deutschland sucht den Superstar” candidate Calvin (22) is a soldier in the Bundeswehr and brings an unusual application for the casting.

The Hanoverian performs with the song “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele and “Lego House” by Ed Sheeran Dieter Bohlen (68) and his jury colleagues.

But that’s not the most exciting thing about him. Because Calvin didn’t even apply for it himself DSDSbut his Bundeswehr colleagues took over this job.

“Because I didn’t dare to register anywhere, my colleagues did it. In the end, I thought: ‘Man, you’re going to pull this off’,” says the soldier in the BILD interview. An even greater motivation for him to go to DSDS was that the range of the show was better for him. “For me, it was just the smartest solution,” says Calvin.

In addition to his singing, Calvin brings great courage to openness. He immediately addresses the fact that he is homosexual. “It’s better to say it at the beginning and avoid asking questions afterwards. But of course it’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Calvin told BILD.

The candidate goes on to say: “I noticed that about homosexuality relatively early on. I officially came out when I was 14. Coming out was a bit more difficult for my parents because they come from Africa. But homosexuality doesn’t change the fact that I’m her son.”

He has a very good relationship with his mother, he does not know his biological father. His family is proud of him and supports him in all walks of life. It is also widely accepted by the military.

In an interview with RTL, he says: “You always have the image in mind that you are being bullied in the military if you’re gay – but that’s not true!”

For his application to DSDS, however, Calvin resigned from the Bundeswehr, and he is about to be appointed corporal. For him, however, it’s not the end of the world, because he keeps his way back clear. “Depending on how far I get, I’ll just let myself be hired again,” says Calvin.
