One of the most beloved and remembered personalities in the video game industry is hironobu sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy and founder of Mistwalker. It was believed that Fantasia was going to be his last game, but Sakaguchi has confirmed that he is not retiring from it and has already started working on his next dark fantasy game.

This week Famitsu published its annual interview with Japanese video game developers, where they give their opinion about the year ahead and talk a little about their expectations for 2023. One of the messages is from Hironobu Sakaguchi representing his studio, mistwalker.

Talking about his ambitions for the year 2023, Hironobu Sakaguchi revealed that he doesn’t always retire, so Fantasian isn’t going to be his last game. In his update about him, Sakagucho said that he will never stop playing Final Fantasy XIV, so if you want to know about him you can find him in Eorzea.

I also started writing the scenario for a new title yet to be announced. It will be dark fantasy,” revealed Sakaguchi.

The only thing that Hironobu Sakaguchi revealed about his next video game is that it will be a dark fantasy, but he did not give more details about it. Most of Sakaguchi’s games have been fantasy, from Final Fantasy to Fantasian to The Last Story and Blue Dragon.

Although Sakaguchi left Square Enix 18 years ago, he is still very much loved by Final Fantasy fans and many continue to enjoy his latest games, though Fantasian is sadly an iOS-only experience. Although Hironobu Sakaguchi is already working on his next game, it is unknown what platforms it is intended for and how long we will have to wait to see it.
