Stranger Things appears to be the first major series to delay production as a result of the ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood. The series’ creators, the Duffer brothers, are both members of the Writers Guild of America, and have written the script for many of the series’ episodes.
The script for the fifth and final season seems to be finished, and filming was supposed to start this May, but the brothers have thus chosen to delay production. As writers on strike, they wouldn’t be allowed to make any changes to the scripts until the strike is over, and in the tweet announcing the delay, they specifically said that “writing doesn’t stop when shooting starts.”
Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out. #wgastrong

Collider reports that the large production companies have lost more than SEK 100 billion in share value since the strike began, but they are also careful to point out that the entire stock market is in decline.
